Voluntary - “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” (arr. Cherwien)

Call to Worship (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Leader:  Praise the Lord.

People:  Let the Lord's name be praised!

Hymn -  “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” # 92

Invocation & Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who Art in Heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. AMEN

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, we come to you in a state of brokenness and you make us new. We enter your presence beyond all earthly repair and you give us new life. Lord, we know that we bring nothing good before you. We know that we are dependent upon you as our only hope for salvation. As your servant once said, “Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God”...(silent confession)

Assurance of Pardon

Doxology   (Tune: “Now Thank We All Our God”)

All praise and thanks to God,

   Who reigns in highest heaven,

To Father and to Son and Spirit now be given.

The one eternal God, whom heav’n and earth adore,

The God who was, and is, and shall be evermore.

Hymn - “It Is Well with My Soul” # 691, vv. 1, 3

Prayer of Illumination

Text – John 5:1-9

Sermon - "Jesus' Power to Heal"

Pastoral Prayer

Affirmation of Faith

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN

Hymn - “How Gentle God’s Commands” # 681

Congregational Charge

We go nowhere by accident… Wherever we go, God is sending us… God has a purpose for our being there…and He has given His Holy Spirit to us.

Benediction
